The Rain
<< 2:47 a.m. - Tuesday, Oct. 07, 2003 >>
Don't be shy you learn to fly
And see the sun when day is done
If only you see
Just what you are beneath a star
That came to stay one rainy day
In autumn for free
Yes, be what you'll be.
Please beware of them that stare
They'll only smile to see you while
Your time away
And once you've seen what they have been
To win the earth just won't seem worth
Your night or your day
Who'll hear what I say.

Open up the broken cup
Let goodly sin and sunshine in
Yes that's today.
And open wide the hymns you hide
You find renown while people frown
At things that you say
But say what you'll say
About the farmers and the fun
And the things behind the sun
And the people round your head
Who say everything's been said
And the movement in your brain
Sends you out into the rain.

I ran in the rain from station to station looking for your face with my kindred. And nestled in the waxed floorboards and squeaking tennis shoes, there you were. I jumped into puddles like a fifth grader and soaked my pants above the knees with rainwater. It was dark and the streetlights shown the way; echoing the reverberations of generations across black tar. Stop and look up the street and all the beauty that the milling humans miss. I worry about them too much. And you were there with me, held my hand, and laughed at our mortality. You are my star, you said. You are my light, I wanted to say. Showed up at his door step and he isnt there. They look amused at pools of water that begin to surround our feet. We move on. We keep swimming.
